Reports in detail

For the Mock Exams we do at the Hallcoverssmall

Your Report

The reports, both Full and Basic, are presented in A4 comb-bound leatherboard covers.

A Basic Report will give you your scores, some general information about the morning and bar charts for each subject, so you can compare your results with everyone else's.

In addition, a Full Report looks closely at each child's work to see what needs correcting and then gives you advice on how best to achieve this.

The video below shows you how to use your report.

The website is www.sarahbeswick11plus.co.uk

Basic Report or Full Report

What's the difference?

A Basic Report will give you your overall score and marks for each paper. You will have bar charts (see further down this page) showing anonymously the marks of all the children who sat this exam. Your own mark will be highlighted.

A Full Report goes further. It will look in close detail at what happened on the morning, to highlight what needs improving and how to do it.

The report will give you directions to relevant videos on the website.

We take notes of any inevitable distractions which took place during the exam and keep close observations on how children dealt with them.

We will include any written workings that may give insight into the result: doodles, calculations etc.

The purpose of the Full Report is to identify and rectify all the problems, no matter how small, in a search for that one mark that gets the children over the Pass Mark in the real 11+.

Results

In Basic and Full Reports.

I never talk of pass or fail in these mocks. It is simply irrelevant and counterproductive, causing both despair and complacency in equal measure. The whole purpose is not to massage egos or congratulate parents but to find and fix problem areas before the real 11+.

In the girls’ 11+ they will have a Maths paper, an English Paper and a Verbal Reasoning Paper and the marks are added and given out of 420. In recent years the pass mark has been about 71%

In the boys’ 11+ exam they will be given three marks for Verbal, Maths and Non-Verbal Reasoning. The Verbal score is then doubled. Verbal includes all word based questions e.g. comprehension, spelling and punctuation (often in the form of cloze tests) and naturally, vocabulary. The boys’ pass mark will also be about 71%

I will give the same weighting to my results as the children will have in the real exam.

Bar Charts

In Basic and Full Reports.

You will have bar charts that will show your own results (in black) against those of the other children (in grey).

You will have one for each of the Overall Results (weighted appropriately), Maths, English, Verbal Reasoning and where appropriate Non-Verbal Reasoning.

Obviously, over the three possible Saturdays, the number of children increases. Therefore, we will publish all the anonymised results on our website after the third Saturday to ensure that you have as much information as possible. Often there is a short explanatory video to help you to interpret the results.

Full Report only.

We will let you know whether each question had written workings. If it is useful, we will cut out examples of the children’s work to illustrate points that can be remedied.

We will direct you to short, free videos that will demonstrate the kind of question that was wrong and how to get them right.

All four subjects (Maths, English, Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning) will be similarly commented on, in detail. Each subject is on different coloured paper to make reading the report easier.

 Nervous Mock Exam

Like the Mock Exams we do at the hall, a Basic Report will give you your scores, some general information, and if your answers are returned in time to go in them, bar charts for each subject, so you can compare your results with everyone else's. In addition, a Full Report looks closely at each child's work to see what needs correcting and then gives you advice on how best to achieve this. Every question in the Nervous Mock Exam papers has a corresponding video explaining how to answer it. The full report gives access to these, with a list for each child of which ones they particularly need to look at. This is sent out by email and so is not the bound physical product you see above.
